What is solution focused therapy?
Our therapeutic discussions will be centred on discovering what you want (goals), identifying existing solution behaviours (strengths, successes, and resources), and exploring the future – what will be different in your life when the problem is resolved or when you are coping as well as possible. The goal of the solution-focused model is to promote change, not insight or understanding, and this is accomplished by providing an opportunity for you to engage in what is called ‘the solution-building process’.
Solution-focused therapy does not pathologize you (that is, it does not see you as being flawed), but rather it helps you to remember your strengths and find what works for you. Clients who come to therapy in a “problem-oriented state” are encouraged to talk about goals and possibilities.
As your solution-focused therapist, I am there not as an educator, but rather as a guide. I am not the expert on your life and, therefore, my primary job is to help you to recognise your competencies and strengths. We look to your future and at what is possible for you.
How can solution focused therapy help me?
Solution-focused therapy is used to challenge and overcome concerns such as:
Performance study skills
Motivation
Confidence
Relationships
Anxiety
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Behavioural changes such as smoking, drinking, eating disorders, fears and phobias
Book An Appointment
Choosing the right counsellor is an important process and I understand that it is not always easy to begin looking for help and support. You are welcome to book a free 15 minute telephone consultation to help give you the chance to see if you feel comfortable with me and the way that I work, and to discuss how counselling may benefit you.
You can ask any questions you have and together we can decide whether mine is the best counselling and therapy service for you. There is no obligation or commitment needed to attend any further sessions.
